Wednesday Bible Class

Favoritism, Mercy, and Living Faith

This week the class continues through the Book of James with James Chapter 2. The lesson asks us to examine how we treat others and whether our faith is visible through love, mercy, and faithful action.

Class Focus

James 2:1-13

James warns believers not to show favoritism or judge people by wealth, appearance, status, or outward signals. The chapter calls Christians to fulfill the royal law: "Love your neighbor as yourself."

  • Showing no favoritism or partiality
  • Loving our neighbors as ourselves
  • Extending mercy as God has shown mercy to us

Class Focus

James 2:14-26

James teaches that genuine faith is more than words or correct belief alone. Living faith produces action and becomes visible through obedience, mercy, generosity, repentance, and care for others.

  • Understanding that genuine faith produces action
  • Examining whether our faith is visible in daily life
  • Seeing Abraham and Rahab as examples of active faith

Prepare for Class

Haywood encourages everyone to read James Chapter 2, carefully consider the discussion questions, and come prepared to share thoughts. There are no perfect answers expected, only open hearts, thoughtful preparation, and a willingness to learn together from God's Word.
